Can a Dental Bridge Help You!

As you probably know, almost everyone is looking for a perfect smile. Similarly, you know that missing a tooth can have a negative effect on your self-esteem. Typically, this is enough motivation for replacing a missing tooth—but did you know that, if you have missing teeth, you could have to deal with a variety of issues. Luckily, there are many options that you can consider—including a dental bridge.

A traditional bridge has at least one artificial tooth, known as pontics, but can consist of as many as three pontics. These pontics are held in place by the natural teeth on either side of your bridge. These teeth serve as anchors for the bridge, ultimately holding it in place.

The process of getting a bridge sometimes takes two different dental appointments. During the first appointment, our dentist will prepare your natural teeth—which are known as abutment teeth—to support bridges. During your second appointment, your bridge will be cemented into place.

However, depending on your unique circumstances, our team may recommend a different type of bridge. For example, a cantilever bridge may be used if you only have one natural tooth that can be used as an anchor available. Similarly, our dentist could recommend a bonded bridge, which requires less preparation.

If you are missing teeth, we recommend visiting our dentist as soon as possible. Gaps caused by missing teeth can lead to issues in your mouth, such as shifted teeth, a bad bite, TMJ disorder, and gum disease.
