Veneers as the Dental Restoration of Choice

Veneers may be the right dental restoration for you. Here are two typical introductory questions and answers about veneers:

What is a veneer?

A veneer is a sheet made of white durable porcelain which is attached to your natural tooth to restore what has been cracked, chipped or discolored.

How would Dr. Audrey Kemp fit me with a veneer?

First, Dr. Audrey Kemp will take a look at your tooth and decide what dental restoration would be right for you. If your tooth is strong at its core but chipped, cracked or discolored on the edges, a veneer will probably be the best option for you. Dr. Audrey Kemp will likely recommend a dental veneer if your tooth has been weakened due to decay or aging. If your tooth is missing entirely, she will talk to you about dental implants or bridges. Should she decide that a veneer is the best choice, she may be able to fit you with a temporary veneer immediately or very soon afterward.

As for your permanent veneer, an impression will be taken of your mouth. After you leave, we’ll take this to a dental technician who will create your custom permanent veneer. Were you planning to get your teeth whitened? We recommend that you take care of that before you receive the permanent veneer, as porcelain cannot be bleached the same way as a natural tooth, and you’ll likely want to match your veneer to the shade of the rest of your teeth.

Once everything is ready, Dr. Audrey Kemp will take out the temporary veneer and she will adhere the permanent veneer to your tooth with a special durable dental superglue.
