Do you feel a cold sore coming on? If so, you probably feel irritated and frustrated that you have to suffer through the course of a sore once again. Fortunately, there are things you can do to relieve cold sore discomfort, and our dentist, Dr. Audrey Kemp, is happy to tell you all about them.
First, ice the sore. This is the best thing to do when the cold sore starts stinging. Grab an ice cube, wrap it in a towel, and put it on the lip. For the best results possible, ice the sore with an ice cube until it melts and then stick a second cube on there.
Second, let the sore dry out. Many people quickly grab the cream to slather the sore, but this might not help as much as you think it will. It’s best to let the sore dry out until it’s no longer painful. At that point, use the cream to minimize the splitting. As the sore heals, keep your lips moist. This prevents bleeding and helps it heal quicker.
